Program Impact:
Texas Relaunches Program to Delight of HVAC Contractors
Texas HVAC contractors have been kept busy by the steady stream of rebate applications during the second phase of the rebate program.
Texas relaunched its Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program on December 20, 2010 and has seen a steady stream of applications ever since. More than $12 million in rebate funds have been approved so far in the second phase of the program and about $5 million in funds remain. Eight different energy efficient appliance categories from dishwashers to HVAC systems are eligible for rebates.
HVAC contractors are happy with the messaging, timing, and the program in general noted Julie Rabeux, manager of Texas' appliance rebate program. "They've been interested in the program and they're pleased with the second phase being a mail-in rebate process," she added.
HVAC appliances being rebated include central air conditioning and air-source heat pumps. Other appliances include numerous types of water heaters, room air conditioners, clothes washers, freezers, refrigerators and dishwashers. Texas also offers an incentive for consumers to recycle older appliances through an extra $75 recycling rebate.
Texas added $8.5 million from unused State Energy Program funds to the appliance rebate program, bringing its total funding to nearly $32 million. "The program helped spur demand on the high level tax credits appliances," added Rabeux.
