Program Impact:
Appliance Rebates Wake Up Georgia Buyers!

Georgia's appliance rebate program is "meeting our expectations and accomplishing what we set out to do," says Andrea Schroer, state energy program manager. Since Georgia's State Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program launched February 12, consumers have purchased more than 29,000 ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers, dishwashers, air conditioners, water heaters, furnaces, boilers, or heat pumps. To date, consumers have applied for more than 24,000 appliance rebates.

"Retailers are really seeing the stimulus money at work," Schroer says. "They have done a lot of advertising and they are seeing the benefits of the program." Many stores are now planning Mothers' Day and Earth Day events in conjunction with the rebates. Rebates range from $25 to $199.

"Our number one seller in this program has been clothes washers, with nearly 12,000 sold in six weeks," says Schroer. "Dishwashers are a close second with more than 8,000 sold."

A ticker on Georgia's Web site informs the public of funding levels. "It is constantly changing," says Schroer.
