Program Impact:
Colorado Recharges on ENERGY STAR Appliance Rebates

An example of the Colorado program sponsor's promotional materials.

Colorado's rebate program sponsor uses a variety of promotional materials to reach consumers.

The Recharge Colorado campaign has brought a wide range of energy efficiency and renewable energy opportunities to consumers across the state. Rebates for ENERGY STAR qualified appliances have played a key role in the campaign. As of September 28, 2010, Colorado has provided more than 10,600 rebates ranging from $50 for dishwashers and refrigerators to $500 for gas condensing furnaces.

The campaign has already paid dividends for suppliers and contractors across Colorado. John Misuraca, sales manager at Cooper Heating and Cooling with stores in Broomfield and Colorado Springs, said rebates and other incentives have led to the company's best year ever and a tripling of employees, even in difficult economic times. "The rebates have been a great tool for sales staff to offer this as the best time ever to buy a furnace," Misuraca said. "The state rebates have been a huge plus for us. We've noticed a significant increase in our business because of them."

With the onset of cooler weather, Colorado launched a new appliance rebate marketing campaign this fall to remind consumers of the savings that come with energy-efficient furnaces and hot water heaters. The fall campaign will target new customers as well as those who expressed initial interest in rebates through the Recharge Colorado website but may not have followed up and obtained one. Additionally, rebate recipients will be contacted and motivated to pursue additional rebates for more efficiency upgrades.
